Terminals of Domodedovo Airport

Domodedovo Airport is an airport in Moscow. It was the largest Russian airport in terms of passenger turnover, and is also among the twenty busiest airports in Europe. It is located on the border of the Domodedovo urban district and the Ramensky district of the Moscow region, 45 kilometers southeast of the center of Moscow, 22 kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road.

The airport complex includes an airfield formed by two independent parallel runways (RWY1 and RWY2). They are located two kilometers from each other, which makes Domodedovo the only airport in the Moscow aviation hub capable of simultaneously performing takeoff and landing operations on its runways. Both runways are certified according to ICAO CAT IIIA. The reconstruction of Runway 1 allowed Domodedovo to become the first Russian airport capable of receiving the Airbus A380 passenger airliner.

The passenger terminal of Domodedovo Airport has an IATA "C" certificate and is the first in Russia to be certified according to the international quality standard ISO 9001:2000.

Air terminal building (ATB)

The current air terminal building (ATB) — or passenger terminal — of Domodedovo Airport has an area of 135 thousand m². The first floor houses check-in islands, shops, food outlets, a waiting room, and domestic and international departures and arrivals.

Domodedovo Airport has an island check-in system: the AVK has four islands with 22 sections and two islands with 20 sections, and four more sections for checking in oversized baggage. They are systematized in accordance with the airlines operating the flights. The check-in islands for both domestic and international flights are located under one roof in accordance with the transfer technologies recommended by ICAO and IATA. This is done to facilitate the route of transfer passengers. In addition, there are 13 sections for checking in transfer passengers in the sterile zone of the airport.

On the second floor of the common area of the airport complex, which is reached by escalators or elevators, you can visit various shops, cafes and restaurants, a spa, and bank branches. There is also a post office, migration service, and airline representative offices there.

The general arrivals area for domestic flights (DFL) on the first floor includes baggage claim, a first aid station, a police station, and the Aeroexpress boarding gate. The sterile or clean departures area for domestic flights on both floors includes several restrooms, a first aid station, a smoking room, business lounges, various shops, and food outlets, including chain stores.

The arrivals area for international flights (IAF) includes phyto-, sanitary-quarantine, and veterinary controls, baggage claim, smoking rooms, showers, a storage room, and an arrivals lounge for official delegations. The two floors of departures for international flights include a first aid station, several business lounges, duty-free shops, and various food outlets.

On the second floor of the IAF, there is a 24-hour free mother and child room for children under eight years of age and for disabled children under 14 years of age. The room provides conditions for the child to play, feed, and sleep.

Special service conditions have been developed for passengers with disabilities. For example, the revolving doors to the airport are equipped with a special button at the level of a seated person. When pressed, the speed of the door slows down, which facilitates access to the AVK building. The elevators leading to the second floor are equipped with exits on both sides, and the entrances to shops and food outlets are wide enough for a wheelchair to pass through. There are ramps and specialized restrooms. Upon prior request from the passenger and the airline, airport services can provide an escort to the aircraft, assisting him in passing through security.
